About this site

This site has been developed to help Local Authority staff get to grips with Cultural Well-being - what it means and why it is important.

It has also been developed to allow the sharing of information related to cultural well-being.

The site is an attempt to make more visible the many resources, guidelines, research reports, statistical collections and  other information that can be found on government and local authority websites that may be relevant to cultural well-being.  Pulling these resources together has shown that there are many players contributing to cultural well-being at a local level.

The logo used on the website represents the four well-beings for which Local Authorities are responsible under the Local Government Act 2002:

  • Social
  • Cultural
  • Economic
  • Environmental

The centre of the logo represents ‘well-being' the point where the four well-beings overlap.

The Ministry for Culture and Heritage encourages local authorities to integrate cultural well-being into their planning and practice.
