Cultural Planning Toolkits

These Toolkits were developed as 'how-to guides' to assist local governments, arts, cultural and heritage organizations with the processes of cultural planning and cultural mapping, and the development of public art projects and programs. The Toolkits were produced by the Creative City Network of Canada in partnership with 2010 Legacies Now and the Department of Canadian Heritage.  Find the tool kits here

The new Shantytown Sawmill experience opens

Shantytown proudly launched its latest attraction the new Shantytown Sawmill experience on 14th June. The Sawmill was officially opened by the Minister of Tourism Damien O’Connor in front of a very large crowd of dignitaries, stakeholders, sponsors and several hundred members of West Coast sawmilling families.

Ninety Years After Coming Home

The war that claimed the lives of 18,500 New Zealanders ended with the signing of the Armistice at the eleventh hour, 11 November 1918. Too worn out to celebrate, the troops quietly welcomed the news – finally they could think about coming home.

Mrs Bebe Lord, who was six years old in 1918, recalled the relief when the news reached New Zealand:

Bridging the Gap Between Art and Utility

Public infrastructure is rarely mistaken for art, but a new pedestrian bridge on the North Shore could change that.

Onepoto Bridge was commissioned by North Shore City Council to replace an existing pedestrian access lost to the widening of Onewa Road. The Bridge formed part of the council's broader urban design plan to redefine urban structures from the utilitarian into architectural elements integrated into the landscape.
