‘Building support in your community’

A workshop by National Services Te Paerangi 

Kapiti:  9.00am–4.00pm, Friday August 28,

at the Anglican Church Waikanae Parish hall,

corner Elizabeth and Pehi Kupa Streets,

Waikanae. 

This will cover:

·  identifying community stakeholders

·  understanding what they are looking for and how they make decisions

·  how best to develop, manage and sustain effective relationships

·  developing community relationships focused on building your in-house capacity and capability. 

Who will I meet?

  • Tim Walker who after many years of experience in the museum sector now works as a strategic consultant.

Tim has an MA in Art History from the University of Auckland and started work in the museum sector in 1985 when he began his career as the Curator (Fine Arts) at the Waikato Museum. In 1988 he joined the staff of the National Art Gallery in Wellington as a Curator of NZ Art and by 1989 was Curator in Charge. Tim played a leading role, as Senior Curator (Art) and Concept Developer in the development and opening of Te Papa. In 1998 Tim started as Director of the Dowse Art Museum which he led through a period of major strategic and infrastructural development over the next decade culminating in the opening of TheNewDowse in February 2007. As Director, Museums in Hutt City since 2003 Tim also led the Petone Settlers Museum.  After a short period at the Auckland Museum in 2008 Tim set up Tim Walker Associates in February 2009. In his work as a consultant he is focused on building greater strategic capability in the museum sector and increased collaboration between cultural, creative and commercial sectors.

 Who is it for?

This is an introductory level workshop which gives representatives from small museums, heritage organisations, the arts and cultural sector, iwi organisations, and others in the region to learn useful new skills and share ideas.

 ·The registration fee is $10.00 only, please pay on the day. 

What should I bring?

·Pen and paper to take notes.

· Your lunch (morning and afternoon tea will be provided).
