Creative New Zealand has developed an online donations toolkit to help arts organisations understand the recent changes to New Zealand’s tax rules on donations. It’s a great resource that outlines the new rules and how individuals and organisations can make the most of them. As of 1 April 2008, donors can claim more money back from the donations they’ve made. In the past, individuals could claim back a third of their donation but only up to a total of $630.00 in one tax year.
CNZ worked with arts organisations to find out what information and resources they needed and the toolkit was developed to meet those needs. It’s a user-friendly resource that is designed to enable organisations to explain the changes and benefits to potential donors.
While it was developed for the cultural sector, it’s clear that this toolkit will also be very useful for other organisations. It includes information on how arts organisations can benefit from the tax changes, suggestions on how to find the right donor, copies of forms and useful links to other resources, plus a video interview with a donations arts success story.
Check it out the toolkit now - it could make a difference to your organisation.
