Get with the programme: adventures in youth programming


Engaging youth audiences is an important challenge for curators, public programmers, educators, and marketing staff of museums and art galleries.  Tristan Sharp, Programme Manager at Newcastle Region Art Gallery, will present free two-hour seminars on youth programming in Wellington, Hamilton, and Dunedin in February 2010.  About the presentationDrawing on a diverse background as a practitioner and researcher, Tristan will illustrate his presentation with youth programming case studies. He has held positions in regional and state art galleries in Australia, and will present a range of programmes he has initiated for youth. These include the Roadshow Outreach Programme, Bundanon Breakthrough at Campbelltown Regional Gallery, the ARTEXPRESS high school exhibition, Peer to Peer video project, and Artside-in outreach programme at The Art Gallery of NSW. As well, Tristan will talk about his plans for the future at Newcastle Region Art Gallery. He will also talk about his travel and research experiences in the USA and UK, sharing ideas about working with youth, and online programming.  

About the presenterTristan Sharp is Programme Manager at Newcastle Region Art Gallery. He has been an Arts Educator for over ten years. In his new role at Newcastle Region Art Gallery Tristan is responsible for the Gallery operations, including its building, exhibition, curatorial, and visitor programmes. Learn more about Tristan

DunedinWednesday 10 February, 1–3pm, the auditorium at Dunedin Public Art Gallery Afternoon tea will follow all presentations.

The Wellington seminar will be recorded and the audio will be available from our website www.nationalservices.tepapa.govt.nz
