resource icon image Crafting Regional Growth - A Guide to Evaluating Cultural Tourism in Your Region

The Cultural Minister Council, Australia, has approved the release of the Statistics Working Group cultural tourism guide Crafting Regional Growth.  The guide can be used by regional tourism managers to evaluate the impact of cultural tourism in local regions.  

This guide is presented in a workshop format and steps users and participants through techniques for gathering information to assess the economic value, tourism impact and benefit of cultural tourism in a destination.

Creating Communities Kit

The Creating Communities Kit has been developed by the Local Government Association of South Australia, Arts South Australia and Country Arts SA. The project undertook an audit of Local Government involvement in arts and cultural activities and prepared a draft policy for the LGA, guidelines for Councils to develop and maintain arts and cultural policy, policy story sheets and good practice story sheets.

Creative Communities Invercargill Funding Scheme


A Invercargill City regional resource.

Funding is available for community based arts activities for people living in the Invercargill area. In addition, grants and guarantees against loss are available.  The main criteria for this grant is that the project must increase community participation in the arts at a local level and/or increase the range and diversity of art available in the community.

Creative Communities Scheme

Funding is available for local community based arts activities in your area from the Creative Communities Scheme (CCS). The aim of the scheme is to increase participation in the arts at a local level, and increase the range and diversity of arts available to communities. The scheme is a partnership between CNZ and the 74 local authorities. Each local authority takes responsibility for delivering the Scheme in its area.

This Fund is provided by Creative NZ and administered by the Whakatane District Council.

Cultural Health Index for streams and waterways

The purpose of this study was to develop a tool to facilitate the input and participation of iwi into land and water management processes and decision making. The result is the Cultural Health Index (CHI) for streams, developed by linking Western scientific methods and cultural knowledge about stream health.

Cultural Indicators

The Cultural Indicators report establishes the indicators within a framework of five theme areas, which broadly reflect key goals for the New Zealand cultural sector and those involved in it. Currently not all the indicators have been populated, due to lack of data in some areas.  This will be rectified over time as data becomes available.

Cultural planning toolkits

These Toolkits were developed as 'how-to guides' to assist local governments, arts, cultural and heritage organizations with the processes of cultural planning and cultural mapping, and the development of public art projects and programs.  The Toolkits were produced by the Creative City Network of Canada in partnership with 2010 Legacies Now and the Department of Canadian Heritage.
