The wider Moana Management Strategy focuses on Lake Brunner and the adjoining areas.  Lake Brunner, or Kotuku-Whakaoho as it is known to Tangata whenua, is the largest lake on the West Coast, and represents an important resource for both the region and beyond.  The lake and its environs have a unique mix of significant natural, cultural, recreational values which combine to create a 'jewel in the crown' of the Grey District.

The programme provides New Zealand artists with an outstanding opportunity to experience the people, stories and challenges associated with our country’s unique natural and historic heritage.

The Wildfoods Festival has become an iconic and premier special event in New Zealand.  Westland District Council is a major sponsor of the Wildfoods Festival.
