Central Otago District Council, Sport Otago, Public Health South and the Central Otago Principals Association (stakeholders) have worked collaboratively to develop a physical activity strategy for the Central Otago District as defined by the District Council boundaries. The project is being largely funded by SPARC.

The community has identified ways in which this vision can be achieved.

Many governments are striving to improve the way they measure progress and plan for change from an integrated ‘whole-of-government', sustainable development perspective.  Central to this is the development of meaningful indicators. Identifying appropriate indicators of economic, social, environmental, cultural and democratic progress across local government boundaries, as part of a national system of sustainability indicators, is a challenging task and requires social-scientific and technical expertise.

This plan aims to prioritise artwork opportunities and initiatives so that funding can be allocated appropriately. It will also assist with identifying potential locations for artwork gifts to Christchurch City.

Christchurch Civic Awards recognise substantial service, usually of a voluntary nature, that benefits the city of Christchurch and its people. Civic Awards are granted annually to people and organisations.

Community Board Heritage Awards have been established to recognise the efforts of the community to preserve the built heritage of local areas. The awards have been set up to encourage protection of historic buildings and help foster greater awareness of local heritage.

Each year the Council's six Community Boards set aside an amount of money to fund young people in their local community.

The loans scheme is designed to assist not-for-profit organisations to improve or develop new or existing sport, recreation or community facilities.

The Council has led a process to find out what we as a community wish for Christchurch now and in the future. Individuals as well as many groups and organisations will need to work together to achieve these outcomes. A group of outcome measures or indicators has been developed to track our progress towards the outcomes we want.

First held in 1991, the Community Pride Garden Awards are a Council initiative to acknowledge the work of residential gardeners who, by their efforts, have contributed to Christchurch's garden city image. They encourage local residents to beautify their streets and garden frontages.

Certificates are awarded each year to individuals or groups in recognition of voluntary service benefiting residents or organisations in their local community. Awards are presented at a ceremony each June.

Applications are invited from eligible not-for-profit groups whose activities provide opportunities in the areas of community, social, recreation, sports, arts, environment or heritage to the wider community or to specifically defined communities of interest.

This fund supports events and festivals in the Christchurch City area which contribute to creating a vibrant and well-balanced events calendar.

The Growing Sport fund has been established to assist National or South Island sporting events and activities that meet certain criteria.
