Cultural well-being strategies and policies

The Arts Agenda is Auckland City Council's first comprehensive strategy for arts and cultural development in the city.  It sets out a vision for the arts in Auckland that will see Auckland as the arts and cultural centre of the Pacific with a unique identity based on Te Ao Maori, its Pacific roots, our natural and cultural heritage and our cultural diversity.

In 2005 the Whangarei District Council resolved to develop an Arts Culture and Heritage Strategy that would not only enable it to strengthen collaboration across the four sectors but also identify potential ways in which the sectors could align with tourism in order to enhance sustainable growth across the District.

The Strategy provides an assessment of physical activity in the District, identifies ways to enhance physical activity opportunities in the District, and provides actions to implement the findings of the Strategy.

This plan contributes to the vision of Auckland's CBD Into the Future strategy that seeks to transform and revitalise Auckland's central business district into a vibrant and dynamic business and cultural centre.

This plan sets out how the city will enhance and improve the CBD as a place for people first and foremost, through the provision and design of open space. Its aim is an open space network that reflects the city's origins, aspirations, diversity and lifestyle.

Art is an essential facet of social well being. If Auckland City is to be the outstanding city of the South Pacific, art must have a strong presence throughout the city. This includes the provision of high quality public artworks that are integrated seamlessly into the public spaces and the design of buildings in order to enhance and enrich the enjoyment of our city and reflects Auckland’s unique environment, history and multi-cultural society.

The goal of the Community Facilities Strategy is to ensure a network of venues across the city for people to meet and participate in the life of their communities and neighbourhoods.

This strategy will allow Auckland City to be more proactive, collaborative and supportive of events that enliven the city.

The challenge for Auckland City is to manage growth and the change it brings, while still preserving the values, character and environment Aucklanders value.
