Cultural well-being strategies and policies

This document provides guidance for the attraction of film, television and news media production to the Wanganui District. The policy details the levels of assistance and service that will be provided by the Council and outlines the expectations of the Council with regard to the obligations and requirements that will be placed upon inbound production companies.

A community workshop was held in April and discussed key aspects to do with the long-term management and development of the area.   These included development of the lands, establishing a good cover of native sand-binding vegetation on dunes, protecting foredune vegetation, a safer environment in front of the carpark and surf club as well as on dunes, developing and managing safe accessways to the beach for vehicles and pedestrians, an off-road recreational vehicle area, and a coastal park on the former land fill with trails, information and vi

The Franklin District Growth Strategy is part of the Council’s commitment to sustainable development.

Franklin District Council has prepared guiding documents to assist in the effective management of growth in the Franklin District.  See the town plans below for our three main town centres - Pukekohe, Tuakau and Waiuku.

The Heritage Strategy project aims to go beyond the conventional regulatory approach to heritage management to identify opportunities for the whole community to have a hand in heritage management and promotion.

The Recreation and Open Space Plan provides, as a result of extensive research, a clear action plan to guide the management and development of the Franklin District ’s recreation and open space facilities and opportunities.

The RAD Plan’s vision for the District is: “to provide quality reserves for recreation, sport and amenity which are interlinked by green corridors that provide safe walking and cycling routes while also providing wildlife refuge and sustaining ecological values.”

Council must produce a LTP every three years with a minimum of a ten-year focus. As such, this LTP sets out Ruapehu District Council's intended work programme in detail for the next three years, and in general for the following seven.
