Cultural well-being strategies and policies

This strategy has been developed so that Christchurch people can enjoy regular physical activity and through this improve their physical, mental and social health and wellbeing.

This plan aims to prioritise artwork opportunities and initiatives so that funding can be allocated appropriately. It will also assist with identifying potential locations for artwork gifts to Christchurch City.

Council are currently developing a vision to ensure Christchurch is New Zealand's best city to live in. Aquatic facilities contribute to achieving this vision along with the community outcomes and the strategic directions of Council.

In developing the Arts Policy and Strategy the Council has recognised the key role of the arts in the City's social, cultural and economic development, and as a vehicle for urban renewal and city marketing. The arts play a vital role in improving the lives of citizens and should be encouraged for itÕs social and cultural value as well as commercial potential.

The Draft Metropolitan Sports Facilities Plan is a city-wide plan to guide the Christchurch City Council's future role and investment in metropolitan sporting facilities during the next 20 years. These are facilities which provide benefits and services for sport at a city-wide, national and international level.

The history and location of Christchurch City and Banks Peninsula provide a distinctive character, much of which is derived from buildings and other structures. While it is the early buildings in Christchurch and Banks Peninsula which do most to define the City's and the Peninsula's unique architectural identity, the contributions of all periods have helped to shape the City's character and define a special sense of ‘place'.

The plan is designed to guide the future development of Christchurch City Libraries' buildings through to 2025.

A long-term plan is a Council's contract with its residents that describes how it intends to achieve the community's goals and the city's long-term goals with the resources available to it.

The Physical Recreation and Sport Strategy is founded on the belief that there are a number of key individual and community benefits that accrue from people taking part in physical recreation and sport activities.
