Cultural well-being strategies and policies

To maintain and improve the lifestyle we have in Southland, residents have identified, through the ‘Our Way Southland' project, the following as the outcomes they want for themselves, their families and their communities. The ‘Our Way Southland' report not only describes the seven community outcomes identified by Southlanders, it identifies the layers of intermediate outcomes and outputs that support them.

Outcomes are simply a desired result or state of affairs. Community outcomes describe the type of place that our people want the Wellington region to be. They describe what we value as important for a good quality for life.

Community plans provide a framework for implementation through specific time orientated objectives to guide the community, community groups, agencies and the Hastings District Council now and in the future.

Clive is one of the oldest settlements in Hawke's Bay and is full of history, culture and great people.

In partnership with the Council, the Flaxmere community has developed a plan to improve the social, cultural, environmental and economic well-being of Flaxmere.

Whakatu is a unique village situated between the two cities of Hastings and Napier, and comprises residential, rural and industrial communities.  In February 2004, the residents of Whakatu requested a community plan be developed. Council has worked in partnership with the Whakatu Community Trust in consulting with the community to develop the Whakatu Community Plan

The Creating Communities Kit has been developed by the Local Government Association of South Australia, Arts South Australia and Country Arts SA. The project undertook an audit of Local Government involvement in arts and cultural activities and prepared a draft policy for the LGA, guidelines for Councils to develop and maintain arts and cultural policy, policy story sheets and good practice story sheets.

The NSW Ministry for the Arts in consultation with the Department of Local Government: cultural planning guidelines intended to encourage sustainable, integrated and strategic planning at the local level.
